Just a peek from the intimate dinner party on the beach, at the Hotel Del Coronado. Beautifully planned and designed by the ever talented Emily Smiley and Karen Tran Florals. A big thank you to our hostess, Amy, for a wonderful evening. xo

Thank you to Ceremony Magazine for featuring the Coronado wedding of Jacqui + Andrew on their blog, today!

I love photographing kids as they grow up and reach their milestones. I first photographed Charlotte just weeks old, and now she’s the big TWO! I don’t think they will be “terrible” at all… She’s an angel.
This session was a great example of how you can get beautiful toddler portraits, when Mom and Dad approach it with low pressure, and realistic expectations for their little one. Developmentally, toddlers are just not ready to sit and smile for an hour, and they’re also a little cautious about the lady with a camera. If they feel any frustration by Mom and Dad, they view me as the reason for this, and will probably not relax – despite my best efforts. In this case, Charlotte took the queue from her parents, and I was viewed as a friendly visitor. We moved around to different locations, and played together in the sandbox. The result is a gallery full of beautiful portraits of a little girl and her family – and a baby on the way! Here are some favorites from Charlotte’s session, or as she likes to be called, C.C. :-) xo

Fingers and toes. :-)

Yay, C.C.! xo

Such a sweet couple, and very brave with the chilly temperature we had this day. We went to one of my favorite beaches – Shell Beach in La Jolla – and it was definitely December by the water! :-) Erin and John are very sweet together, and I love how these shots turned out. Looking forward to their wedding day of July 7 – which also happens to be my wedding anniversary. :-)

The very coolest part of my “job” is that I’m always inspired by my couples. Their individual styles and personalities, their connection to each other, how we interact as a trio… It’s the people that make the experience, and the experience that makes the art.
With Alyce + Matt, as I was working on their images, even though we had fabulous color to work with – not just in Little Italy, but with Alyce’s gorgeous hair!! – I suddenly felt drawn to black and white. It wasn’t my classic black and white, but a more vintage style – something timeless about Alyce’s beauty, like a throwback to different era. After I altered one image, I altered another, and even though her full gallery of images will be available in color, I wanted to share many from this collection in black and white. I hope you enjoy these as much as I do!
If I had to pick a favorite. (sigh)

Special photo request: Their wedding invites have a similar pattern as this wall, so we started here. :-)

Searched for THE perfect cafe window… Found it! :-)

Her hair is so stunning…

Whatever this ad is selling, I’ll buy it. :-)

Love love love. xo

Even in the height of wedding season, I’m never too busy for family portraits – especially when it’s to welcome a beautiful baby. :-) Baby Evan had turned 8 weeks old, so Mom and Dad scheduled a session for him. Having a busy week, they decided they wouldn’t be in the photos… but I snuck them in there , and I hope they’re glad I did! They look great in these shots, and Evan will love to see these when he’s grown.
Congratulations Mom and Dad, and welcome sweet Evan! xo

How gorgeous is Mom? Love this shot, just before I left.

The force is strong with him. :-) (P.S. Dad, I love that you had a matching shirt.)

Favorite. xo

I was really looking forward to this wedding, not only because the Bride and Groom are absolutely perfect for each other, but because we have some family ties as well. Emily is my sister-in-law’s BFF, and just this past July 17, we were Maid + Matron of Honor at her wedding together. Mr. Jeff and I are also connected, since he gifted my son his first yo-yo, and inspired him to learn some pretty cool tricks. ;-)
Congratulations to Emily + Jeff! Your love is full of sweetness, respect and a kismet connection that everyone could feel. Cheers to your amazing future together. xo

Emily included personal touches that are great ideas to borrow! She included part of her Mom’s wedding veil on the bouquet, a piece of her “blue” baby blanket stitched into her dress, and handmade pouches for her Bridesmaids – complete with dress-matching cameras! Thank you to my sis-in-law, Julie, for modeling the camera. ;-)

Super sweetness. xo

Emily’s nephew was as polite as he is handsome. Look at that beautiful face!!

Their friend officiated, and as much as I love “the kiss”, I equally love his gesture.

Shout out to their National Comedy Theatre group (where they met and still perform) – especially to the little guy in the bottom right corner. Did someone quickly pose him, or did he seriously do that himself? Perfect! :-)

My assistant photographer took the photo, below, and I love everything about it.

Their fairy tale love needed a shot like this.

Marianne + Tom celebrated their intimate wedding at L’Auberge Del Mar, surrounded by their closest friends and family ~ including their three beautiful girls. We planned to spend two hours together, and I’m always excited to see how much we can do with that time. We started with pre-ceremony portraits in the Jade Room, enjoyed their ceremony on the Sunset Terrace, then walked down to the beach for portraits. It was a little grey that morning, but Marianne’s golden hair and Tom’s blue suit gave such a warm “pop” to every shot. Sometimes grey days will inspire me to convert the images to black and white, but except for a few, I was totally drawn to their color. :-)
When we got back from the beach, the newlyweds joined their cocktail hour on the lawn of the Amphitheater, and I took a few detail photos on the Sunset Terrace – now converted from their ceremony site to their own private luncheon space. So cool!
Congratulations to Marianne + Tom, and their beautiful children ~ and thank you to Alison Sansom and Alison Kopecky, of L’Auberge, for doing such a beautiful job planning the day. xo

Tom’s close friend officiated, and did an awesome job.

Yep, that’s her Daddy! :-)

Marianne had to transport this dress from New Jersey, and said it was like a giant pillow on the airplane… Hard to pack, but awesome to photograph. :-)

I can never say this enough… Cool locations are everywhere! This was in a random parking lot on our way back to the resort. :-) Looove it.

I LOVE this shot at the end of our session.

I had been looking forward to this wedding ever since I shot Jacqui + Andrew’s engagement session. They have such amazing chemistry, and I couldn’t wait to photograph them on their big day. They didn’t disappoint – looking amazing, and having the same white hot connection that I remember. They are an awesome pair, and my camera loves them! :-)
The ever amazing Susanne Duffy, of Crown Weddings, planned the day to perfection… starting with the ceremony on the Bayside Lawn of the Coronado Island Marriott, and finishing with the reception under the property’s white tent. I love this venue’s view of the bay and San Diego skyline, and we had big blue skies to make it even better. Our day’s great team included: Florals by Embellishmint / Video by Blue Pearl / Ceremony Music by Michael “Gonzo” Gonzales / Papers by Simply Posh Design / Reception music by Mobile Music Plus.
Congratulations to Jacqui + Andrew!! xo

Their beautiful boys. xo
